There is currently in excess of 16,000 MWs of wind on the ERCOT System. By 2017, ERCOT expects system wide wind capacity to increase above 24,000 MWs. Add 1,700 MWs of utility scale solar and likely even more going forward and the system will be very different than it was a few years ago. Under these circumstances ERCOT will change the way it maintains reliability and operates the grid.
