"How’s It Looking Today? Recent and Upcoming Improvements to ERCOT’s Operational Forecasting and Analyses"

Speaker:
Dan Woodfin
Sr. Director – System Operations, ERCO

The reliable and efficient operation of the ERCOT System requires accurate forecasts of load, wind and solar output, timely reporting of all resources’ capabilities and plans, and effective tools to assess the sufficiency of resources to meet the load and cover potential risks. ERCOT continues to improve its forecasting in each of these areas, as well as developing more-effective analytical tools. The control room also recently added an additional operator to each shift to support these improvements. Our speaker Dan Woodfin, Senior Director – System Operations at ERCOT, will provide an overview of what ERCOT has done – and is considering in the future -- to keep up with changing system needs.

Dan Woodfin has been with ERCOT for fourteen years, during which he has led efforts to improve the transmission planning process by incorporating enhanced stakeholder input and economic considerations, to develop and implement the CREZ Transmission Plan, to reliably integrate wind generation into the system, to continuously improve operational practices and to modernize the ancillary services framework, having been both Director of System Operations and Director of System Planning for ERCOT. Before joining ERCOT, Dan was Manager of Transmission Policy for the merchant generation development group at Reliant Energy and Manager of Resource Planning for the CSW utilities. Dan has a BSEE and MBA from Texas A&M University.
